Today the Ohio Equal Housing and Employment Act was passed out of State Government Committee in the Ohio House with a vote of 8 to 5. The bill is expected to be voted on next week, but the actual day is not yet known.
From an Equality Ohio e-mail: ”The committee vote marks the first time in Ohio’s history that a vote has occurred on legislation protecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Ohio in either chamber of the General Assembly. The only previous issue to come to a vote in the General Assembly related to LGBT issues was the 2003 legislative [sic] so-called Defense of Marriage Act.”
Equality Ohio is asking all Ohioians to contact their state representatives, urging them to vote yes for the EHEA. To send a prepared message, click here.
