Participants needed for FTM study

Are you 18 or older? Do you currently identify as a female-to-male transgender or transsexual, or have identified as FTM in the past and now identify as male but have NOT started T?

A self-identified transgender male, Stacey Colt Meier, is conducting a research study on persons who identify as transgender men. He is a doctoral student at the University of Houston, and the results from this study will be used for his Doctoral Dissertation. The purpose of this research is to examine changes in cognitive functioning, emotional reactivity and personality due to testosterone.

In order to qualify for this study you must be at least 18 years old. You must not have started testosterone before the first testing session. You must plan to start testosterone within the next year and plan on taking testosterone for at least one year. If you are interested, e-mail Colt at with your first name and telephone number. He will call you for an initial telephone screen.

The study consists of three measurements (questionnaires/surveys) lasting 2 to 3 hours each, which Meier will send them via snail mail. These measurements will be conducted over the period of one year: first pre-T, second 3-4 months after starting T, and third 10-12 months after starting T. You will be asked to fill out questionnaires that assess basic demographic information, personal transitioning plans, personality and emotional reactivity. This study has been reviewed by the Committee for Protecting Human Subjects at the University of Houston.

  1. Hi there,

I’m writing you today to ask for your support on a personal project I’m working on. One of my oldest friends is female-to-male transgendered. His top surgery was completed about a year ago, and his next goal is metoidioplasty. I’ve taken on the challenge of helping him raise funds for this very expensive surgery.

We’re putting together a 2011 calendar of FTMs that will be sold online and in various LGBTQI-friendly businesses all over the United States. My goal is to make this an annual project for transgendered people who need help financing the medical procedures they so desperately need. In order to pay for the printing costs, I’m selling ads on the calendar and on our website to people who provide services, products, and support to the transgender community.

100% of the proceeds from the calendar sales will pay medical fees associated with Sexual Reassignment Surgery for transgendered individuals. If you’d like to donate, advertise, pre-order a calendar, or help sell calendars, please visit our website! We’d also appreciate anything you can do to help promote the project and spread the word.

I would really appreciate your support on this project. Sometimes the smallest acts can lead to the biggest changes in someone’s life. I am just one person trying to help make the lives of others better in some way, but I can’t do it alone. I appreciate your time and consideration. And I thank you for the difference you are already making in people’s lives.
