Aguilera is definitely herself tonight

So maybe Christina Aguilera’s new video for “Not Myself Tonight” is a little — OK, a lot — like a watered-down version of a Lady GaGa video. It’s a fascimile of GaGa’s greatness and an indicator of just how solidly situated the Lady is on her thrown.

But that doesn’t mean this should be ignored:

(Aguilera and GaGa almost look like twins in these photos, don’t they?)

“Not Myself Tonight” features leather, latex, bondage, allusions to group sex, sexually suggestive dancing and homosexual activity, among other things, so it is no surprise the media is having a field day with the video’s content. But this is nothing new. We’ve seen all of these themes in past music videos, including some of Aguilera’s.

So what if Aguilera is dancing around in lingerie? She did that in the “Lady Marmalade” video. And she got all “Dirrty” on us in ass-less chaps while she writhed on both male and female background dancers. Why all the fuss over “Not Myself Tonight”? Lady GaGa, Britney Spears, Madonna and countless others have used similar themes in their videos as well. This is typical pop starlet behavior.

When it comes to the girl-on-girl action, Aguilera merely teases us. This is hardly a music video that pushes the boundaries of sexuality. But one thing is sure: GaGa would have gone all the way.

  1. This is spot on. I love Christina and I love these photos. Gaga is the new Christina. She was gone too long between albums, but she has always done stuff like this. Christina = original Gaga.
