Chicago International Music and Movies Festival (CIMMFest), hosted Sister Spit: The Next Generation, a queer spoken word type roadshow, emceed by Michelle Tea, author of Valencia. The show featured performances from playwright Erin Markey, slam poet Kit Yan, Fag School zinester Brontez Purnell, local comics artist Edie Fake, writer Cassie J. Sneider, Justin Vivian Bond of Shortbus fame, and Dorothy Allison, author of Bastard out of Carolina, at the Wicker Park Arts Center. Bonus: Everyone also brought along their fiercest frocks for the festivities.

Sister Spit Chicago was amazing. I don’t normally have a long attention span for readings, but the all-star lineup Tea brought to Chicago absolutely blew me away. I laughed, I cried, I wrote. I was jealous of everyone’s clothes. Although the lineup varies, if you get a chance to see Sister Spit in your area, I highly recommend it.

Additional photos from Sister Spit are up on Stuff Queer People Need To Know’s Facebook page.
